Mental health recovery is about taking the first step…
Sometimes traditional forms of therapy are not effective to meet your recovery needs. By offering an alternative intervention such as guided outdoor walks while talking and laughing, we give adolescents and adults the opportunity to create more ease in their life that is both thoughtful and fun. This is helpful when life just feels hard and out of control.
Let’s get moving and start your recovery journey now!
Did you know that walking is a form of exercise AND an activity that
most people can enjoy at almost every age and stage of life?
Walking is low-impact, so it is gentle on our joints and can be done either inside or outside. Walking in the beautiful outdoors, and with others, has shown to have more of a positive impact on our overall physical and mental well-being. The following are additional benefits to group walks:
- Establishes friendships and connections with others
- Increases energy and stamina
- Enhances sleep
- Nature puts everything into perspective
- Decreases stress and tension
- Reduces risk of heart disease and stroke
- Decreases high blood pressure
- Address obesity and type II diabetes
- Reduces mental health symptoms such as depression and anxiety
I will take you and a group of others on walking adventures through your beautiful community, whether it is raining, snowing, cold, or warm outside, all while empowering you to learn the tools and skills you’ll need to take control of your life. During our adventures, we will discover locations like Carson Park, Mt. Simon Park, and other fun trails/parks while learning coping skills and wellness techniques from a mental health professional.
This type of walking group is called ‘experiential learning’ and it’s backed by evidence-based research! Now isn’t that great!
Here are a few of my “walk-and-talk” topics:
- Mindfulness
- Gratitude
- Self-care
- Identifying triggers
- And so many more!
Even when we are dealing with the harder, more difficult topics of life, my goal is to use a light and respectful approach with each of you. Our mental health walks are meant for education, smiles, laughter, healthy movement, and maybe even a little bit of introspection. I want to empower YOU and help guide you on your path to recovery all with a positive attitude and a little bit of humor!

About Heidi Garborg-Mueller, Owner of Locall Motion
As a Certified Advanced Practice Social Worker (CAPSW) and a Certified Laughter Leader, I know and understand just how the stigma of mental illness can lead to feeling isolated from your community, family, and friends. With my walks, we’ll change that with one step at a time. Recovery is a process and I am here to provide you with the tools and support needed on your journey. In my seventeen years of experience working in mental health, I’ve discovered that meeting a person “where they are at,” without judgement, helps tremendously during their early stages of recovery!
Everyone needs to feel empowered for taking their first step on the road to recovery. That’s what Locall Motion is here to do! I give my walkers hope and show them that they CAN improve both their physical and mental health by walking, talking, and simply having fun. Research shows that nature heals hearts, minds, and souls. I get to show you how…but most importantly, you will learn to feel it for yourself!
